Dawn Comer Jefferson

Dawn Comer Jefferson is an award-winning writer, producer, author, and teaching artist. She has written and produced television dramas for broadcast and cable networks (including NCIS, Judging Amy and South of Nowhere), developed a family drama pilot at NBC Universal, and written Emmy winning arts programming for PBS. Dawn was first nominated for an Emmy for writing the Fox animated film, Our Friend, Martin. Currently, Dawn is writing a limited series for producers Suzanne de Passe and Willette Klausner. Dawn is the coauthor of the non-fiction parenting guide Three Ring Circus: How Real Couples Balance Marriage, Work, and Family, and the African American historical children’s fiction The Promise, which was optioned as a mini-series. Dawn’s essays have been featured in the travel anthology Go Girl: The Black Woman’s Guide to Travel and Adventure, an Oprah book pick, and its sequel coming out in 2023. A graduate of the theatre program at Northwestern University, Dawn started her career in the Disney Writer's Program. Dawn teaches screenwriting in the MFA Film and Television Writing program at Stephens College, and the John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television at USC. Dawn has two children and is married to a rocket scientist who navigates missions to the Moon and Mars.
